Birds and dryer vents
Birds are always looking for a place to call home that will shield them from the weather. Dryer vents do just that they will protect the bird from the elements, however dryer vents get rather hot. So the bird will end up packing all the pine needles and mud they can get in your dryer vent to prevent your dryer from venting on their nest. This will cause your dryer to overheat, and the clothes will take much longer to dry. Sometimes it might even take 2-3 cycles if the bird is in the vent.
After the bird is removed and the entire bird's nest is removed, what's the best way to keep the bird from returning? Some folks will put up chicken wire, while this will keep the birds out it also causes another problem. If birds can not get in. You must ask the question, can lint get out, if the lint can not get out, the dryer vent is still as clogged. So we need a cover that will prevent birds from getting in but will also let lint escape.
There are a number of covers that are capable of doing both of those things. We recommend two specifically “The Wall vent” and “The Defender” both of these covers prevent birds from getting in but allow lint to escape. They are metal so they will not sun rot like other plastic covers.
